A Simple Blood Test May Spot Alzheimer’s Risk Years Before Symptoms
A common blood test that measures inflammation could help predict Alzheimer’s disease years in advance, according to new research. Scientists discovered that higher levels of neutrophils—a type of white blood cell that plays a key role in the body’s early immune response—were associated with a higher risk of developing dementia. This finding suggests that a standard lab value, already used in routine checkups, might help identify people at risk before they show any signs of memory loss. The study also raises the possibility that immune cells themselves might be contributing to the disease process.
